Tags let you group the testers in your community into segments you define, so you can find those people again later. You might tag someone as parent, power user, rated the app 5 stars, or round 2. A tester can carry as many tags as you like, so the same person can sit in several cohorts at once.
Tags pay off as soon as you run more than one test. They turn a flat list of past participants into segments you can filter, invite, and target in seconds, and they can also control which testers receive a particular survey inside a test. Tagging is part of community management, so it may not be available on your account.
How to tag testers during a test
You can tag people while a test is running, from any tester list inside the test.
Open your test and go to Tester Status, Recruiting Results, or the results of a survey.
Select the testers you want to tag using the checkboxes.
Click Add tag in the actions bar above the table.
Choose an existing tag, or type a new one to create it.
Save. The tag is added to those testers in your community, so it stays with them after the test ends.
How to Tag Testers in Your Community
Go to Your Community and stay on the Members tab.
Filter the list if you want, then select the testers you want to tag.
Click Add tag, choose or create the tag, and save.
Note: Tags that you provide in a test, follow the tester in other tests in your community. They are not test-specific.
Tagging one tester at a time
Click a tester to open their profile panel, then click + Add Tag. Their current tags appear next to their name, and you can take one off by clicking the x on it.
Tagging testers as you import them
For Enterprise customers, when you import testers into your community from a file, the import dialog has a field to add tags to every imported tester. That is the quickest way to label a whole batch, for example 2026 pilot list.
How to invite tagged testers to a test
You can filter your community by tag and add the people who match to the invite queue when inviting from your community.
Open your test and go to Tester Recruiting. On a test that is already live, this is the Recruiting Settings tab.
Under How do you want to recruit testers?, choose Your Community.
Select Choose specific testers.
Click Manage testers to open the tester picker.
Open the Tags filter and pick the tags you want. The label beside the filters tells you how many of your testers match.
Tick the testers you want and click Add to Invite Queue.
Click Done. Everyone in the invite queue is emailed an invitation when the test launches.
Because tags work as a filter here, you can combine them with everything else in the picker: past tests, demographics, custom profile fields, owned devices, and whether someone is already testing. See Filtering and inviting testers from your community for the full set of filters, saved filters, and how to select every tester matching a filter at once.
How to use tags as a survey prerequisite
Inside a test you can also limit a survey to tagged testers. In the survey distribution settings, under Prerequisites, tick Only testers that have a tag and choose the tags. Only testers carrying a matching tag receive that survey.
How to remove tags
Go to Your Community, or to a tester list inside a test.
Select the testers you want to change.
Click Remove tag. This only appears when at least one selected tester actually has a tag.
Choose the tags to remove and save.
To take a single tag off one person, open their profile panel and click the x on the tag.
Things to know
Tags belong to your community, not to one test. A tag you add during a test is available everywhere afterwards.
Tags are only visible to your team. Testers do not see them.
Selecting several tags in a filter matches testers who have any of those tags, not all of them. To narrow further, combine tags with another filter.
Keep tag names short and consistent. Reusing an existing tag from the list beats typing a near duplicate.
The tester picker only lists people who have finished joining your community, so someone who was invited but never onboarded will not appear there.
Removing a tag does not remove anyone from your community. Use Remove from community on the Members tab for that.
