Your community is everyone who has applied to or taken part in one of your tests, plus anyone you have imported or invited directly. The tester picker lets you search that group with the same filters you use on your Your Community page, then add exactly the people who match to a test's invite queue.
This is how you run a targeted follow-up: invite only the testers tagged power user, only the people from last quarter's beta who own an Android phone, only the parents in Canada, or only the testers whose custom profile field says they already use a competing product. It is faster than recruiting fresh testers, and the people you reach already know your product. Community recruiting is part of community management, so it may not be available on your account.
How to open the tester picker
Open your test and go to Tester Recruiting. On a live test this is the Recruiting Settings tab.
Under How do you want to recruit testers?, choose Your Community.
Under Which testers would you like to invite from your community?, select Choose specific testers.
Click Manage testers. You can also click any of the figures above the button to open the picker already showing that group.
How to filter your community
The filter bar runs across the top of the picker. Filters combine, so each one you add narrows the list further, and the label on the right tells you how many of your testers match.
Search testers finds a specific person.
Testing Status separates people who are Testing right now from those who are Not Testing, so you can avoid pulling someone into two tests at once.
Tags matches the tags your team has applied. Picking several tags matches anyone who has at least one of them.
Tests matches people who took part in particular past tests.
Owned Devices matches on the phones, tablets and computers testers have told us they own.
Custom Profile Fields matches answers to your own community profile questions.
Demographics opens country, age, income, gender, tech experience and education.
Click Clear filters to start over. If you build a combination you will want again, open the saved filters control and choose Save current filters. Saved filters are grouped into My Filters and Team Filters, so a segment one person defines can be reused by everyone.
How to add testers to the invite queue
Filter down to the group you want.
Tick individual testers, or use the checkbox at the top of the list to select everyone on the current page.
On the Queued for Invite and Not Selected views you also get a Select all link, which selects every tester matching your filters rather than only the page you are looking at.
Click Add to Invite Queue. The button shows how many of your selection can be added.
Click Done when you have finished.
To take someone back out, select them and click Remove from queue. Each row also has a quick action, so you can add or remove one person without selecting anything first.
How to read the groups
The tiles at the top of the picker split your community by where each tester stands with this test.
All testers is everyone matching your current filters.
Queued for Invite is your invite queue. On a draft test these people receive invitations when the test launches. On a live test they are waiting to be invited in batches.
Invited appears once the test is live, and lists people whose invitation has already gone out.
Not Selected is everyone in your community you have not targeted for this test.
Click a tile to work inside that group. The table also has an Invite Status column and a Tags column, so you can see at a glance why someone matched.
Rescinding invitations on a live test
On a live test, select people in the Invited group and click Rescind invite to pull their invitation back. Anyone who has already joined or applied is not affected. Their row is locked and marked Joined.
How to set your recruiting target
Below the picker, How many testers would you like to recruit? sets the size of the test. If you want everyone in your queue to be invited and able to take part, this number has to be larger than the queue. If it is smaller, we invite from your queue in batches only until the target is filled.
Things to know
The picker only lists testers who have finished joining your community. Someone invited but not yet onboarded will not appear.
Adding someone to the queue does not email them. Queued invitations go out when the test launches.
Switching between All past applicants and Choose specific testers clears your current selection, and you are warned before it happens.
If your test offers no incentive, only your own users, the people you originally brought into BetaTesting, are targeted. Reaching testers who came from the BetaTesting Panel requires an incentive.
Use the column control in the actions bar to change which tester details the table shows.
