Rating Tester Feedback and Participation

How to rate individual survey answers and give a tester a star rating for their overall work in a test.

As a customer, you have the ability to manage your testers by rating their feedback and removing testers who are not providing quality feedback. BetaTesting gives you two ways to score feedback and participation from testers:

  1. You can rate individual survey answers as you read through results

  2. You can rate a a tester's overall performance in the test.

We recommend rating feedback that stands out as you read it. This helps maintain quality in the tester community. Also, we help Highlight quality feedback as you view reporting.

Rating is available to admins with edit or support access. Read-only admins can see results but cannot rate them.

How to rate an individual answer

  1. Open the test and go to the survey results you want to review.

  2. Find the tester's response. Three options sit next to their name: Low Quality, Helpful, and Excellent.

  3. Click the one that fits. The rating saves straight away and BetaTesting confirms it.

Rating an answer Helpful or Excellent also highlights that response, so it is easy to find again later. Clicking the rating you already chose leaves it as it is, and clicking a different one replaces it.

How to rate a tester's overall work

  1. Click a tester's name anywhere in the test to open their profile panel.

  2. On the Profile tab, find Rate quality in the overview and click the stars.

  3. Pick one to five stars. One is Poor, two is Below average, three is Average, four is Good, and five is Excellent.

You can also alternatively open the panel's options menu and choose Rate this tester.

The Rate this tester dialog also shows the tester's average rating across all of their work, so you can see how this test compares, and it shows your previous rating if you are changing one.

Things to know

  • There is no "Okay" rating on answers. The three options are Low Quality, Helpful, and Excellent.

  • Answer ratings and star ratings are separate. Rating answers does not set a star rating, and a star rating does not change any answer ratings.

  • The star rating applies to this test only. Rate the same tester in another test and the two ratings sit side by side in their history, feeding the average rating shown on their profile.

  • Star ratings are only available for testers who have been accepted to the test.

  • Ratings are not shown to testers, and nobody is emailed when you rate them.

  • Rating an answer Low Quality does not remove the tester and does not delete the answer. Taking someone off a test is a separate action, covered in removing testers from a test.

  • Before writing a tester off, check whether they submitted an issue report. Thin survey answers are sometimes a sign that a tester could not get your product working, not that they were not trying.
