Printing, saving, and exporting survey results

Print or save the results page as a PDF, export responses to a spreadsheet with the tester columns you choose, download every uploaded file as a zip, and run re-downloadable exports from the Reports page.

Survey results can leave BetaTesting in three forms: a printed or PDF copy of the results page as you see it, a spreadsheet with one row per tester and the columns you choose, or a zip of every file and video testers uploaded. Each is built for a different job, and each has its own options for what to include.

Print or save a PDF when someone needs to read the results the way you do, charts and quotes together, without logging in. Export a spreadsheet when the data is going into your own analysis, a pivot table, or a research repository, and you want tester demographics, tags, or screening answers alongside every response. Generate a zip when a designer or engineer needs the actual screenshots and recordings rather than a link to each.

Everything here respects the filters at the top of the results page, so you can export one segment at a time. The exports are available to every admin who can view the test; the Reports page, which adds a scheduled, re-downloadable version of the spreadsheet export, is a plan feature and may not be available on your account.

Printing or saving the results page as a PDF

Open your test's Survey Results and click Print at the top right. The menu has four options.

  1. Print opens your browser's print dialog with the full results page: every question with its chart, statistics, and answers. Choose a printer, or use your browser's save-to-PDF option.

  2. Print (charts only) does the same but leaves out every question that has no chart, such as open text, file upload, and matrix questions. Chart questions keep their chart, statistics, and answers.

  3. Save as PDF builds a PDF of the full page and downloads it as Survey Results.pdf. A progress indicator reads Processing your PDF. This may take a while... while the pages are rendered; a long survey takes a minute or more.

  4. Save as PDF (charts only) builds the same PDF with the no-chart questions removed.

Both options print the page exactly as it is on screen, which is what makes them customizable. Before you print, set up the view you want:

  • Apply filters or a search to narrow the testers, for example one country or one tag. Only the filtered results are printed.

  • Choose Show all questions to print the whole survey. In Show one question at a time mode, only the selected question is printed.

  • Click Load more at the bottom if it appears. On tests with 100 or more testers, the page shows ten questions at a time, and questions that have not been loaded are not printed.

  • Click Show more items under a question to print more than its first 15 answers, and turn on hidden answers if you want them included.

  • Expand the AI sections you want on the page, such as sentiment or the summary. Collapsed sections are left out.

The printout is headed with the survey name and the test name, and the navigation, filters, and buttons are removed.

Exporting responses to a spreadsheet

Click Export at the top right of Survey Results to download an Excel workbook with one row per tester and one column per question.

  1. Set any filters or search first. The export contains exactly the testers currently shown, so filter to a segment if you want only part of the data.

  2. Click Export. A list of optional column groups opens.

  3. Tick the groups you want added to the file. The survey's answers are always included, whether or not you tick anything.

  4. Click Export in the list. The message Your download will start soon confirms it, and the file downloads in your browser.

The file is named after the survey and test with the export date, for example "Survey Results for survey #1234, test #5678 (Aug 29 2026).xlsx".

Choosing the columns

The optional groups add columns to the right of the tester's identity columns and before the survey answers:

  • Show demographics: age, gender, country, and the other profile demographics.

  • Show screening results: each tester's answers to your screening survey, one column per screening question. Offered only when the test has a screening survey.

  • Show tags: the tags you have applied to each tester.

  • Show devices: the devices the tester registered for the test.

  • Show custom test fields: any custom fields you defined on this test (feature limited to specific plans)

  • Show custom profile fields: any custom profile fields your company collects (feature limited to specific plans)

Every export starts with the tester's ID, name, email, source, rating, and device, then the test and survey names and the original and latest submit dates. Nothing is ticked by default, and the selection is not remembered between exports.

How answers are laid out

The first row holds the question text; a second, grey row holds sub-headings where a question needs more than one column.

  • Single-choice, scale, text, and dynamic data questions take one column with the answer.

  • Multi-select questions take one column per option, with the option name in the grey row and the option text in the cell when the tester chose it.

  • Matrix questions take one column per statement, with the chosen rating in the cell.

  • Ranking questions take one column listing the tester's order, one choice per line.

  • File upload questions take one column with a link to each file. The links require signing in to BetaTesting.

  • Document signing items show Signed or Not signed. For the full signing record, use Export Digital Signatures on the Testers page.

Exporting from the Testers pages

The Export button on the Testers pages, including Recruiting Results and Tester Status, works the same way, but the columns come from the gear icon that controls the grid: whatever column groups are switched on in the grid are what you get in the file. On Tester Completion, the gear also offers Show survey results with one entry per survey, so you can add any survey's answers to a tester status export.

Exporting a single question

Each chart has its own export. Click the three dot menu at the top right of a chart and choose Export the data to Excel to download a workbook for that question only, with the chart embedded, the count for each option, the statistics from the Response Summary at the confidence level you have selected, and one row per tester's answer.

Matrix questions export every statement, or a single statement from its expanded chart. Text and file upload questions have no per-question export; use the page export for those.

The same menu has Save as Image, Print, and Save as PDF for a picture of one chart. See Analyzing survey result charts.

Downloading uploaded files and videos

When a survey contains file upload or video questions, a folder icon appears next to the Print button, with the tooltip Generate zip file for answer uploads.

  1. Click the icon, then Generate zip file. The status shows Preparing to zip... and then Zipping... This may take 5-10 mins. You can leave the page; the zip keeps building.

  2. When it is ready, the panel shows Zip generated on with the date and file size. Click it to download.

  3. To rebuild it after more testers have submitted, click Generate new zip file.

The zip contains every upload in the survey, in a folder per question, with each file named after the tester and the file's description. It is not affected by the page filters, and the link stays on the page for anyone on your team to download later. Individual files can be downloaded from the download button when you open them on the results page.

Exports from the Reports page

If your plan includes reporting, the test's Reporting page collects every export in one place and keeps a history of the files. Under Feedback & insights, click Export on Survey Export.

  1. In the Export Survey Data dialog, choose the Survey.

  2. Under Include in export, tick Demographics, Screening results, Tags, Devices, Custom test fields, or Custom profile fields, or use Select all.

  3. Click Export. The report is generated in the background with a Generating report indicator, and the file downloads on its own when it is ready.

The workbook has the same layout as the Survey Results export. The difference is that it is generated by a background job, so very large surveys do not time out, and every run is kept under History on the report row with a Download button, so a colleague can pull the same file later without rebuilding it. The Reports page also offers issue, shipping, and tester exports, and an AI Insights export by analysis run. Running a report needs full admin access.

Things to know

Spreadsheets are always Excel files. There is no CSV option, but Excel, Google Sheets, and Numbers all open the file and can save it as CSV.

Exports download in your browser straight away. Nothing is emailed, so if a download does not appear, check that your browser is not blocking downloads from betatesting.com.

Filters and search apply to the print, PDF, and spreadsheet exports, but the Highlights Only filter applies to print and PDF only. To export a spreadsheet of highlighted answers, export the full set and filter in the spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet export always includes every question in the survey, even when the page is in Show one question at a time mode. The print and PDF options include only what is on screen.

Every spreadsheet export is recorded in the test's audit log with who exported, when, and which filters were applied.

Any admin who can view the test can print and export. Running reports from the Reports page requires full admin access.
