Using BetaTesting in your own language

Set the BetaTesting interface to one of nine languages, on any plan, whether you are a tester or an admin.

BetaTesting is available in nine languages. You can set the platform to the one you read most comfortably, and every button, menu, label and page heading switches over. It is a personal setting on your own account, it takes a few seconds to change, and it works the same way whether you are a tester taking part in tests or an admin running them.

If English is not your first language, this is the difference between guessing at an interface and simply using it. Testers find it easier to work through a survey, submit an issue, or check when a reward is due. Admins on a client team who are based outside an English speaking office can run their tests, read their results, and manage their account without translating the interface in their head all day.

This setting is available to everyone on every plan. There is nothing to buy and nothing to ask us to turn on.

Which languages are available

The platform interface is available in:

  • English

  • Chinese

  • French

  • German

  • Italian

  • Japanese

  • Portuguese (Brazil)

  • Russian

  • Spanish

English is the default. If you have never chosen a language, you are seeing English.

Setting your preferred language

Your language is set on your own account and applies only to you. Changing it does not change what anyone else sees, and it does not change the language anything was written in.

If you are a tester

  1. Select Account Settings from your account menu.

  2. Go to the Settings tab.

  3. In the Basic Profile section, find Preferred language.

  4. Choose your language from the list.

  5. Select Update to save.

The platform switches straight away, and it stays that way the next time you sign in on any device.

For testers, language selection is available here: https://betatesting.com/user-profile

If you are a client side admin

  1. Select Profile & Settings from your account menu. This opens the Your Settings page.

  2. Stay on the Profile tab.

  3. Find Preferred language and choose your language.

  4. Select Update to save.

For admins, that is available here: https://betatesting.com/admin/about-you

Every admin on your account sets this for themselves. One admin working in French does not put the rest of your team into French.

What your language setting covers

The setting applies to the platform itself: navigation and menus, buttons, form labels, page headings, status messages, and dates and times. It works across the whole product, on newer pages and older ones alike, so you should not run into a page that stays in English after you have switched.

It does not change words that a person typed. Test names and descriptions, survey questions, answers testers have written, issue reports, and messages all stay in the language they were written in.

Email notifications from BetaTesting are sent in English.

If your company also has automatic translation

Some accounts include a separate feature that translates the content of a test as well as the interface. Where it is switched on, survey questions can reach testers in their own language and what testers write can be read by the client team in theirs, with the original always a click away.

That is a paid feature and it is not part of the language setting described here. If content in your tests is being translated, or you would like it to be, see Automatic translation of test content.

Things to know

Your language is never detected for you. It is not taken from your browser and it is not set when you sign up, so until you choose one you will see English.

The setting follows your account, not your device. Sign in anywhere and you get the same language.

You can change it as often as you like, and switching back to English does not lose anything.

Portuguese is offered as Portuguese (Brazil). It is the only variant of Portuguese available.

Your choice does more than change the interface if your company has automatic translation, because it also tells the platform which language to translate content into for you. It is worth setting for that reason alone.
