Comparing charts - Measuring data and improvements over time

Learn how to create chart comparisons in BetaTesting surveys to benchmark important data and improve over time

Updated over a week ago

BetaTesting helps you track and compare quantitative data over time while iteratively testing.

You can compare a multiple choice, checkbox, or slider question to past results if it has the exact same question text.

Process to compare charts

First, view the survey results in chart view (as opposed to grid view).Select Compare in the menu to the right of the chart.

Choose the comparison settings:

  • Tests to compare: Choose specific tests that have this question or all tests

  • X-Axis groupings: Decide how you want to group data with the setting.

    • By test: Compare each test individually

    • By time period: Aggregate data across tests that happened in the same time period, and compare time periods (e.g. weekly, monthly, yearly, etc).

Comparison chart types (stacked column, stacked area, line chart w/ stick intervals)

Choose the chart type for the comparison:

  • Stacked Column - In this example, we're comparing data by time period, and we can see that the product has become more useful over time, with ~75% of testers now indicating the product is rated 1 (very useful) or 2 out of 5.

  • Stacked Area - A different visual way to compare data in a similar fashion to the stacked bar chart

  • Line (w/ stick intervals) - The data point for each test or time period represents the average of the responses for that group. So for the first test, the average response was a 3 (midway between Excellent and Poor). The stick represents the standard deviation, the variance of the responses for that data set.

Changing the chart type after setting the comparison settings

Once you have created the comparison chart, you can change the chart type used for the comparison by clicking the chart icon to the right.

Exporting chart comparisons

You can choose to export chart comparisons in various ways.
